CIGARETTES AND NARCOTICS

In Dubai, as in the rest of the United Arab Emirates, regulations concerning cigarette consumption and narcotics are very strict. The city takes public health and safety seriously, and this is reflected in the laws and regulations in force.

  1. Cigarettes and tobacco

Cigarette smoking is permitted in Dubai, but there are strict restrictions on where you can smoke. Smoking is prohibited in enclosed public places such as shopping malls, offices and restaurants. There are designated smoking areas, often outside buildings or in specially equipped spaces. In addition, taxes on tobacco products are high, which is reflected in consumer prices.

In 2019, Dubai also introduced a ban on smoking in vehicles in the presence of children under 12, underlining its commitment to public health. Tobacco advertising and sponsorship of events by tobacco brands are also prohibited.

  2. Narcotics

Dubai’s drug laws are extremely strict. Possession, use or trafficking of illegal drugs, including substances that may be legal in other countries, is severely punished. Penalties for drug-related offences can include heavy fines of up to 2,000 euros or a lengthy prison sentence. Possession of prescription drugs is also regulated, and it is essential to have a medical prescription to carry and use certain medicines. Travelers entering the United Arab Emirates must ensure that they have the necessary documentation for the medicines they are bringing into the country.

In Dubai, while tobacco consumption is permitted in designated areas, the authorities apply very strict rules against the use of narcotics, reflecting a zero-tolerance policy on drugs. Rules are rigorously enforced to ensure the safety and well-being of all.
